#delta8 – “On Tuesday, the Senate passed SB903 in a 25-15 vote sending the bill over to the House of Delegates for consideration.
The bill would add packaging, labeling, and testing requirements to the products, among other provisions.
The Virginia Hemp Coalition has come out against the bill, saying it could expand what’s illegal to sell, forcing many products to be pulled from the shelves.”
#psychedelics – “Ayahuasca is a psychoactive beverage that has long been used by indigenous people in South America in religious ceremonies and tribal rituals. In recent years, the beverage has emerged as a strong candidate for implementation into psychiatric care, particularly for patients with treatment-resistant depression.
Studies have shown that taking ayahuasca is associated with an improvement of depressive symptoms. In a study published on December 5, 2022, in Frontiers in Psychiatry, a team of researchers from Brazil’s Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) describe an experimental ayahuasca session. They found that specific emotional and physiologic parameters were critical moderators of improvement in major depression biomarkers, mainly serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and serum cortisol (SC), 2 days after ayahuasca intake.”

#cannabispolitics – “Former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura told a powerful story about how cannabis stopped his wife’s chronic seizures during testimony in favor of marijuana legalization at the state legislature on Tuesday.
“Cannabis saved my life. Let that sink in. Not me personally, but the 38th first lady of Minnesota. And if I get choked up a little, bear with me,” he told a Minnesota Senate committee.”
#cannabisindustry – “Rutgers Law School recently established a certification program for New Jersey cannabis business owners to provide legal guidance for properly maintaining their businesses in an emerging market.
The non-J.D. program titled “Certificate in Cannabis Law and Business,” is a six-month hybrid course for cannabis license holders and interested entrepreneurs. University faculty specializing in cannabis rules and regulations will teach the coursework.
The now sold-out program will run from January to July 2023 and cost $2,695. The program will offer scholarships to business owners who are minorities, women or veterans with disabilities as well as individuals from underserved areas or people who have been convicted of marijuana-related offenses.”
#cannabisindustry – “New York City has initiated public nuisance lawsuits against the landlords of four Manhattan properties where officials say unregulated sales of marijuana to underage customers have taken place.
The complaints, filed in state court in Manhattan on Tuesday, allege that underage patrons working for the New York Police Department entered the stores on multiple occasions in December and purchased marijuana, and that none of the storefronts were licensed by cannabis regulators.
City officials are seeking civil penalties of $1,000 per day that the landlords allowed the sale of marijuana to take place and are invoking a city law that declares any property where unlicensed business is taking place to be a public nuisance.”
#californiacannabis – “The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board approved a $506,813 penalty against two Trinity County cannabis cultivators Thursday for failing to clean up sediment discharges to Trinity River tributaries that threatened fish habitat and aquatic life.
The two accused growers, who had not responded to numerous contacts from board staff, also failed to appear at Thursday’s board meeting when the item was heard. For this case, the cultivators’ lack of response and cooperation in addressing water quality impacts from their operations resulted in a 50% increase in the amount of the penalty.
